So, we’re moving!
Let me take you to the beginning before I go any further.
My wife is from San Diego, California. She spent over thirty years there, and the rest of the time she has spent in DFW. So, for almost all of her life she has lived in areas that abounded with population. I fully expected us to stay in DFW and to raise a family here, perhaps retire somewhere quiet after she finally got all the city life out of her. That was until we visited my home state of Missouri this past Thanksgiving.
This was our third visit to the Show-Me state together. The first two visits she enjoyed the quiet, the family, the friends and the area as a whole…but, it was just too small, too quiet. Flash forward to Thanksgiving. I have friends in my hometown who are from San Diego. They know both lives. I have other friends and family from bigger cities. They tell her it’s not that bad, it’s a great place to raise a family. We were married, and pregnant at this time. We don’t have just ourselves to think of. The little one helps makes decisions now.
She started looking at jobs around the area for herself. Do they still have health food in the boonies? Of course they do. How much are apartments? Two and three bedrooms are cheaper than my current one bedroom. Can our kids still be raised with culture in the Ozarks? Well, of course they can, you just have to drive a little further…same time to get there though, but more miles.
On an old highway, country road, while traveling from one family member’s to the next she turned to me and said “well, I think we should go ahead and do this.” I replied “Are you sure?” She said yep so, we did.
I started applying for jobs around my family. When I didn’t get any response I decided to increase the radius a bit and applied to a place in the Northwest Arkansas Region. They immediately contacted me and we set up an interview during my Christmas break. Everything went great. I still wanted to live close to my family and travel for the job, which was a little more than an hour away. They offered me the job on the condition that I live within Northwest Arkansas, which is more than fair, so I took it.
We are excited for a brand new, fresh start, for both of us. It’s not small town and it’s not big city, but it’s close enough to each for the both of us.
Wish us luck on our new adventure!
By the way, this is the new, exciting, great news I’ve hinted at since around Christmas time.
What’s going on in your lives? Promise you make fun of my daughter for being from Arkansas!?!
