BroJo’s Life, Giffed

As I mentioned here 2014 will be the year of bloggers, for bloggers. Influenced by this, and dedicated to Lily at Lilyincanada.wordpress.com and Kidz Shows, please enjoy the following.

Lily and I go back nearly two years. Yeah, and I even have proof! Check this out.

Someone had some extra time today.

Hope you don’t mind me letting everyone know that there are at least TWO awesome Mormons out there.

My first reaction from the above interaction was who’s this attractive young lady and why is she talking to me? (This is actually my first thought when all women talk to me. I know, I just ooze confidence) I soon realized she was married, lived in Canada and is about 7 feet tall. It was great to meet her nonetheless. Lily offers a sometimes non-conventional look at things and I enjoy her wit and charm about it. I think what I like most is she doesn’t care what anyone thinks about her. This gives her a chance to post many things that I agree with, but don’t have the nerve to say so. She’s also a lover of the Gif, and of herself. That is what’s led me to this post. I will show you a day in the life of ME, BroJo…Giffed. (Side Note: If “Giffed” is not a word I take claim to it.) Giffed™

Not much sunlight in Canada I guess.

Anyways, back to my life…Giffed!

First, let me tell you what I do for a living. I am a shear wall draftsman/designer. This is basically an “AutoCad technician” job. I am in the “repeat” side of things. This means that the majority of the plans I see are already engineered, and the contractor is just ordering them again to be built somewhere else. The thing is, each of these repeats needs to be signed by the Engineer(s) before they go out each day. That’s where I (among others) come in. Shear wall is kind of in the middle of the process, when we’re talking about printing plans and getting them signed. The first is foundations. The foundation designers draw up their repeats and hand them over to the shear wall designers where we add our drawings, and also provide various notes that shear wall designers know to add. Sometimes we get custom jobs that require us to re-engineer a plan. I’m slowly but surely learning how to do this. It’s difficult at times because you have to guess what the engineer might like or not. After we receive our foundations, add the notes and print them off they go to the Engineer(s) for signing. In the mean time framers and floor joist designers are preparing drawings also. At the end of the day these all get signed and put together to be scanned into the system and then sent out. Any questions?

  1. It’s Lily! And, double bonus, it’s a Lily Gif Post — those are my favorite ever! Or in Lily speak, my totes fave. 🙂 😉
Love to both of you! xo!

  2. Wonderful! This must’ve taken you some time to put together. Love the 9-to-5 gif. Sums it up pretty well. But I’m still confused about your job. Sounds complicated, so I’m glad you’re doing it and not me. There’s a reason I didn’t go into engineering…

    1. Thanks! It’s actually quite simple (I say smugly). I’ll try to explain it better later on. I signed a nondisclosure thing when I was hired, so I can’t actually show anything, I don’t think.

  3. Just like you say, I love Lily’s blog also because she doesn’t care what people think about her, and there’s absolutely no pretense. It’s very refreshing.

I always wonder where you all get these gifs from.

  4. Are you saying you sometimes understand engineers? That takes you to a whole new level of amazingness BroJo. That’s the equivalent of being fluent in every language known to man.

  5. So I’m the worst person for taking so long to comment on this. Thanks SO much for the love bro Jo! You have no idea how happy this made me! I love the gifs you picked. Especially the hungry Winnie the Pooh. Anyway, you’re the best and I’m so glad we’re friends 😀
