80’s Music Needs Some Rules

While doing research and getting ready for this EPIC 80’s music post I ran into some, uh…lets say…trouble.

There is just so much good stuff, I very well couldn’t include it all. So, I decided that I would only list 20 songs per year…and I would not have a band or musician repeat during a particular year. That means that if I picked a Phil Collins song in 1982 I couldn’t pick another one until 1983. (But, I would include Phil Collins and Genesis in the same year.) Side note: anyone ever looked up how many hits Phil Collins and Genesis had back then? I’m telling you they were hit single machines.

One thing I noticed that is different about the 80’s and the 90’s is there are no bands that I did like in the 80s and don’t like now, like Creed, Nickleback or Limp Bizkit. But, there are bands that I didn’t like back then that I’ve grown to love…which incude;

Bon Jovi, John Cougar, REO Speedwagon and Bryan Adams.

There are still bands that I don’t like from that era. Don’t expect to see;

Any kind of big hair “metal” bands, Tom Petty (sorry Emily) and RUSH. (You’re welcome Le Clown.)

Soon the post will be up…and soon you will be able to make fun of my taste in music. I can’t wait.

  1. The English Beat is a cool Band -check out the song, “Mirror in the Bathroom.” I also like the band Squeeze. Also check out the band, X. They have a song called “In this House.”

    Tom Petty is not a big hair band, just FYI.

  2. Well, you know how I feel about 80s music, and it isn’t pretty. But I know it’s making a comeback. In fact, I recently read that Michael Jackson’s 16-year-old daughter is obsessed with the decade–music, clothes, hair, and all. Those of us who lived it just sit back and shake our heads. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. There are plenty of good songs from the 80s, totally agree. Sad that you won’t be considering Limelight or Working Man or Tom Sawyer. Admittedly my wife won’t let me listen to them when she is in the room, so Rush is only for the refined tastes of a select and special few..

    1. Can you imagine growing up in the mid-west…watching MTV or VH1, trying to catch your favorite song of the time….when instead comes on “Last Dance with Mary Jane”? Creepy, especially for a sheltered eleven year old. Sorry. I did like the Traveling Wilburys though.

      And Rush…I just don’t like Geddy Lee’s voice.

        1. Well, if it’s any help…one of my favorite movies is “Fan Boys” despite the fact that when they are in “The Van” they listen to Rush and only Rush.

          I don’t know what to tell you. Sorry. I’ll buy you some new pillow cases…since yours will have tear stains and all.
