You can’t have happiness without sadness. We wouldn’t know how to experience pleasure without knowing what it’s like to feel pain. There would be no “Good” in the world without “Evil”.
This morning I uploaded a post that was partly about Church and partly about the Jaycees. This post would fall into the happiness, pleasure and “Good” categories that I’ve listed above. I’m sorry to say but I have news that would fall into the other three categories listed.
Around noon today a co-worker called me and said that he just heard over the scanner that someone had called in about the doors on our Jaycees Barn being open. This gentleman had said it looked like the barn was broken in to, and they weren’t sure who to contact about it. Lucky for me that he heard this today. I immediately drove down there to check it out. I pulled up and noticed that the big, hanging double doors were pulled apart. I stuck my head through the crack to see if anyone was in there. It was empty, so I took off the lock and stepped in through the regular door. While I was looking around the guy that called the police walked down to talk to me. He asked if this was normal or not, and I said that it wasn’t. There were some things missing.
About five minutes after I got down there a police officer showed up. (Really cool guy. If you get pulled over I recommend you do it by him.) He looked around and I showed him what was missing, which was between 500-1000 feet of electric wire, which is used to power all of our Carnival rides. (In the picture of the boats, on this post, you can see what type of wire I’m talking about.) He called in to have an investigator come down. While we were waiting on the investigator he noticed some shoe/boot prints and checked the bottom of my shoes. They didn’t match, and that may be the only thing they have to go on. Without knowing for sure when this happened there’s pretty much nothing we can do, except get lucky.
It’s a shame that these guys felt the need to come take this stuff from us. We are a volunteer based, non-profit, leadership building organization. Helping people is what we do. We collect toys, food and money for people all of the time. I just hope they are able to get what they need out of this material, and maybe next time they can see this post, or some other media outlet, and see that all they would have to do next time…is ask.
I’m not worried about replacing this wire. It will cost some money and time. We will have to do a few extra fundraisers before July comes, but we are the Jaycees. We always come through in the end, and we’re going to end up having fun doing it…even if it kills us.
