Giving Thanks

I guess the “normal” thing to have done was post this yesterday. I’m not that normal so I’m gonna take my chances. We should be thankful everyday anyway, not just on the fourth Thursday of November.

There are so many things I can list, to be thankful for. This could easily turn into a 5000 word post, but we don’t want that, do we? There’s the usual, everyday things like running water, having a roof over my head, and having a job that helps me pay for both. There’s family and friends. But I was thinking of showing some non-typical things to be thankful for. What do you say?

  • I’m thankful that I don’t have anymore abnormal bathroom stories to post about. Oh, wait a second….I almost forgot about that one. I’ll save that for later – much later.
  • I’m thankful that I’ve gotten into the habit of writing while a DVD is playing. This means every time I watch any of my movies I always catch something new. This is good for someone without cable or satellite.
  • I’m thankful for Mini. She’s been acting a little less indifferent, and a little more lovable towards her Bruddah Faddah. This may have something to do with the weather changing. Maybe she’s just using me for my heat.
  • I’m thankful for being short and having a little bit of a weight problem. This was good for our “Turkey Bowl” church football game yesterday morning. I was one of the guys that took two steps, stopped, and waited for the ball. Easy money.
  • I’m thankful to be living alone. That way no one can tell me how weird it is that I sleep in my living room, instead of my bedroom. And no one can judge me for waiting until I use EVERY SINGLE dish before I clean any of them.

There are many other things to be thankful for, but I think this is a good place to start. What are you thankful for? Not getting run over during Black Friday, perhaps?

Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. ~ 1 Chronicles 29: 13

  1. I’ve realized the only way I will ever have fewer dirty dishes in my life, is if I have fewer dishes over all. SERIOUSLY considering throwing everything except four of each thing out.
I feel the same about laundry. I guess I should be thankful for the overabundance.

    1. Yeah….laundry is next on my to do list. It sounds like something that would be good to do….tomorrow.

I’ve gotten to the point where I’ll throw away Tupperware instead of cleaning it. Makes more sense to me.

  2. Way too much for which to be thankful – too much to list in a post on a blog to people who are too filled to read it, as I am to type it.
I’m alive. That may not sound like much, but there was some question about it for a short time. Cherie almost died last year, but thanks to God and an alert cardiologist, she was saved – not once, but twice. You gotta be grateful for things like that.
Forty years ago, after a destroyed relationship, I was convinced I’d be alone all my life. Yeah, the angst of an 18-year old. Today, I am not only sealed to what must be the most tolerant of all to have put up with me for 39 years, but we have grandchildren who adore us, daughters who are wonderful mothers to our grandchildren, and more love in my life than I could have imagined in my wildest dreams.
All this love started with two little people: Cherie and me. And a loving Heavenly Father who heals and teaches us. The world and its rulers spin on, those rulers may or may not cause suffering and hunger, the nation does or does not go to Hell in a handbasket, but all this love is forever. As is my gratitude and my devotion for all these blessings AND all our pains. The worst of disasters, in the eye of eternity, are but growing pains – and growing up is worth it.

    1. Thank you Grandpa Chet. That’s probably the best, most heart felt comment I’ve ever received. It’s so pleasing to hear when people “make it”, and 40 years on top of that. You are such an inspiration.

      1. You’re very kind, though you may mean “perspiration” rather than “inspiration.” But the secret to the 39 years of marriage is that, 17 years into it, Cherie dragged me kicking and screaming into the Gospel and the next year we were sealed for all eternity. One has to take a marriage seriously after that!

  3. I’m thankful for Mini too because she’s so freaking cute. And I totally understand using every single dish before washing them. Heck, we still do that now, and we have a dishwasher. Sometimes if I’ve just used a plate for sandwich or something, I’ll just dust off the crumbs and call it a day.

That being said, I’m thankful to have a dishwasher and a washer/dryer. Doing all that stuff by hand is a drag. I’m thankful for mashed potatoes. I’m thankful for Mr. Weebles and his clean bill of health–still cancer-free, woo hoo! I’m thankful for my 3 kitties, and for the enduring memory of my Pickles. Thankful for having a roof over my head, food on the table, etc, when so many other people don’t. And I’m thankful for my pillow. I love my pillow.

  4. Actually I thought the picture of the meal looked pretty good but this coming from someone that had lobster bisque and crab cakes yesterday. And two desserts, I am thankful for desserts! And thankful that I own enough underwear to not have to do laundry for five or six weeks. I would rather buy another package of underwear than do laundry.

    1. Well, the food does look good, just not what I want on Thanksgiving. Maybe that would be good for the next day. Yes, I also have an abundance of underwear….Just too bad they are all used.
