October 10, 2012 – Coincidence? I Think Not.

More and more I’m beginning to think that there aren’t any coincidences in life. You know when you get a new car, and all of a sudden everyone in the world is driving the same car? Yeah, this is happening to me – sort of. With all the Movember talk going around I think I’m more receptive to images of people with mustaches.

On this day, in 1861, a Norwegian explorer, scientist, diplomat, humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate was born. This mans name was Fridtjof Nanson. I’m not certain, but I’m sure he liked people to just call him Fred, or at least I would. There is so much information about this fellow, I’m not even going to try to give you much of it. But I will show you why I decided to write about him.

Fred in all of his Mo Bro Glory
  • He was one of the first people to snow ski as a sport.
  • He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on behalf of the displaced victims of the First World War and related conflicts.
  • He was a zoologist and an oceanographer that made his way in and around the north pole.
  • He has an epic Mustache.
  • He is a handsome fella
  • He knows how to take an epic picture.
He and his first wife circa 1889. Not bad Fred, not bad at all.

    1. Not if it’s as awesome as you make it sound. I hear their president, or prime minster, or whatever they have, is a Conan O’Brien look-a-like. That’s good enough reason for me to go visit.

  1. Congratulations on your first Hot Dead Guy post, Brother Jon! 🙂 Seriously, that’s very interesting, I never heard of him. I would like to learn more about his work with the WWI refugees so I’ll have to look him up.

    1. I thought you might like that. Yeah, he’s seems very interesting. I just barely touched on some of the things he did.
